Exploring food adulteration awareness level and its determinants among homemakers
Abstract
Food adulteration poses a significant threat to public health, underscoring the importance of raising awareness about the adverse effects of consuming adulterated food, particularly among the homemakers who serve as the primary caregivers within the households. The study aimed to evaluate the level of awareness regarding food adulteration among homemakers and to identify the possible socio-economic determinants influencing their awareness. The findings revealed that a substantial proportion of homemakers exhibited low levels of awareness about food adulteration, with family income emerging as a key determinant. These results highlight the need to enhance the economic conditions of families and implement targeted awareness programs for homemakers to enable them with more informed and safer decision-making regarding food purchase and food consumption.
