Chemical study and biological activities of Dalbergia baronii Baill. leaves (fabaceae): Antibacterial and antiplasmodial activity

Abstract

Chemical and biological studies were carried out on Dalbergia baronii Baill, an endemic species of Madagascar from the Fabaceae family [1]. Several secondary metabolites of interest were found, including phenolic compounds (tannins, flavonoids, coumarins, leucoanthocyanins) [2, 3]. Biologically, it was shown that the extract has specific antibacterial activity, particularly against Gram-positive bacteria such as Streptococcus pyogenes and Streptococcus pneumoniae, indicating noteworthy selectivity and a targeted therapeutic potential. In addition, significant antiplasmodial activity was observed, with inhibition of Plasmodium falciparum growth at an IC50 value of 7.86 µg/ml.
