Varietal influence on vase life and post-harvest attributes of cut gerbera flowers: Identifying morphological markers for extended marketability

Abstract

Background: Post-harvest longevity is a critical economic trait determining marketability and consumer satisfaction in cut gerbera flowers. Identifying varieties with superior vase life and understanding the morphological predictors of longevity are essential for the floriculture industry. Objective: This study evaluated ten Pomponi Mini gerbera (Gerbera jamesonii Bolus ex. Hooker f.) varieties for post-harvest quality parameters and identified morphological correlates of vase life. Methods: The experiment followed a Randomized Block Design with three replications under polyhouse conditions. Ten varieties (Gonzo, Fozzie, Janice, Camilla, Floyd, Bunny, Beaker, Black Pearl, Honeydew, Tracy) were assessed for longevity on plant, fresh weight, vase life in distilled water, and associated morphological parameters.
