Pharmacological and therapeutic Potential of Tagetes erecta Linn: A comprehensive review on bioactive constituents and medicinal applications
Abstract
Tagetes erecta Linn is a widely grown ornamental and therapeutic plant that contains a wide variety of bioactive compounds. This review focuses on its broad pharmacological potential, which is based on the presence of secondary metabolites such essential oils, flavonoids, carotenoids, and alkaloids. Many substances, including lutein, syringic acid, quercetagetin, and ?-carotene, have been identified by phytochemical study and contribute to the plant's wide range of medicinal benefits. The plant has a wide range of pharmacological properties, such as antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-epileptic, wound-healing, insecticidal, and anticancer properties. Modern pharmacological research has confirmed the long-standing therapeutic effects of T. erecta, which were originally applied in conventional healthcare systems like Ayurveda. Being widely distributed and economically significant, T. erecta is a prospective candidate for the creation of innovative plant-based medicines that target a range of human conditions.
