Effect of few commercial pesticides on the physiological and biochemical parameters of an air-breathing fish (Ham.)

Abstract

Modern agricultural pesticide consumption shows increasing worry about compound effects on aquatic life forms. Being so sensitive, aquatic creatures called fish rely on water for breathing and all their other body processes. The study looks at how some pesticides can affect the bodily systems and chemical activities of the fish Channa marulius (Ham), which is found in India. For their experiment, scientists treated the species Channa marulius (Ham.) with overall small amounts of three chemicals used in agriculture- Endosulfan, Malathion, and Deltamethrin. Measures like how much oxygen the body needs, how fast the heart is beating, the amount of sugar in the blood, and how much AST and ALT are found in the blood were checked by the researchers. It was obvious from the results of the lab tests that pesticides could be harmful to fish and other water creatures. The study shows that pesticides can harm fish, which is why it’s so important to look after watery places from harmful chemicals.
