International Journal of Humanities and Arts · 2024 · Vol. 6(1) · pp. 118–120

Abstract

The entire educational system of our country is in the process of change. It is well known that no educational reform can be successful unless quality of teacher is improved, but in turn the quality of teacher depends to a large extent on the quality of teacher education. Different factors which influence the quality of education and its contribution to national development, the quality, competence and character of teachers are undoubtedly the most significant. Considering the demand in the teaching profession, this paper attempts the possibility of using Open and Distance Learning (ODL) to improve and widen access to teacher education in the country. This paper also explores the unique nature of ODL for providing quality teacher education and the issues to consider in the process.
