Determination of background radiation levels and radon gas concentrations in some quarries of Kufa Cement Factory in the Bahr Al-Najaf area
Abstract
This work is a study of 222Rn radioactivity in rocks measured by FS-600 dosimeter and AIRTHINGS Detector. The rocks were taken from geologic formations in Kufa Cement Quarry at Al-Najaf Governorate. A summary of the results background radiation and the annual effective dose for 20 rock samples, taken from 4 distinct formations, with values of 0.156, 0.164, 0.156, and 0.164 μSv/h, the study measured radon gas concentrations were found to range from 61.4 ± 3.727, 39.2 ± 4.608, 50.4 ± 7.897, 39 ± 3.453, and 39 ± 3.453 Bq/m3, respectively. Based on these findings, we can conclude that the quarries of the Kufa Cement Factory are safe from radiation hazards and do not present any significant radioactive risks to workers or the surrounding environment.
