Estimate the genetic diversity in pea (Pisum sativum L.)
Abstract
Twenty-five germplasm of Pea (Pisum sativum L.) was evaluated at Agricultural Research farm Nidharia of S.M.M. Town Post Graduate College, Ballia during winter season in November 2020–21 in a randomized block design (RBD) with three replications to study genetic variability, heritability, genetic advance, and correlation coefficient. The data were recorded on five randomly selected plants for 12 characters. The recorded data were used for analysis of variance (ANOVA), mean, range, PCV, GCV, heritability and genetic advance, genotypic and phenotypic correlation, and coefficient of variability. A high amount of phenotypic variance and phenotypic coefficient of variability were observed for plant height, number of pods per plant, biological yield per plant, harvest index and seed yield per plant. The genotypes 725-D and ARPANA produced the highest seed yield. These genotypes would be beneficial for transforming characters. The characters harvest index, pod length, seed yield per plant, days to 50% germination, and number of seeds per pod exhibited a high coefficient of variation. So, these characters could be suitable for selection in further breeding programmes.
