Comparative production of amylase by different organisms using solid-state fermentation

Abstract

Amylase production using solid-state fermentation (SSF) with deoiled lemongrass residue as a low-cost substrate. The process was carried out under optimized conditions of 72.5% moisture, pH 6.0, and 30 °C. Among the tested microorganisms, Aspergillus niger showed the highest enzyme activity, reaching 98.3 U/mL on the 10th day of incubation, followed by Trichoderma viride, Pleurotus florida, and microbial consortia. The results highlight that both incubation time and culture conditions significantly influence enzyme production. Overall, the study demonstrates that agricultural waste like de-oiled lemongrass can be effectively utilized for economical and sustainable amylase production.
