Diversity and seasonal occurrence of migratory birds in Balaghat District, Madhya Pradesh, India

Abstract

This study assesses the migratory birds found within Balaghat District (Madhya Pradesh, India), located along the Central Asian Flyway. A total of 16 migratory bird species from 7 orders and 12 families; categorized into 4 groups (winter migrants, summer migrants, passage migrants & partial migrants) through the year. The greatest abundance (62.5%) of the winter migratory birds occurred between October and November and left between February and March; the peak abundance occurred in December and January. Findings demonstrate that Balaghat provides critical stopover, wintering, and breeding areas for migratory birds throughout Central India.
