In vitro efficacy of different fungicides against Aspergillus niger, the causal agent of collar rot of groundnut

Abstract

A study has been conducted at Department of Plant Pathology, University of Agricultural Sciences Raichur on evaluation of new molecules of fungicides against Aspergillus niger, causing collar rot of groundnut. Seven systemic, seven non systemic and seven combi fungicides were evaluated against A. niger under in vitro by poison food technique. Among the systemic fungicides evaluated hexaconazole at 0.2 per cent showed maximum inhibition (91.3 %) followed by 0.1 per cent (88.30 %) and 0.05 per cent (87.90 %). This was followed by carbendazim which inhibited growth of A. niger at all three concentrations i.e., 0.05, 0.1, 0.2 per cent, about 86.80, 87.93 and 90.56 per cent inhibition, respectively. Least inhibition of mycelial growth of pathogen was observed in azoxystrobin at 0.05 per cent (8.23 %). Out of seven non systemic fungicides evaluated at different concentrations, thiram at 0.3 per cent concentration showed maximum inhibition. While, the minimum per cent inhibition of 19.43 was shown by zineb at 0.1 per cent concentration. Among the different combi fungicides evaluated at different concentrations at 0.1, 0.2 and 0.3 per cent, Carboxin 37.5 % + thiram 37.5 % WP at 0.3 per cent concentration showed maximum inhibition (92.22 %) followed by trifloxystrobin 25 % WG + tebuconazole 50 % EC (91.53 %), statistically they are on par with each other.
