Effect of irrigation and silicon levels on growth, yield and quality of Barley (Hordeum vulgare L.)

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted at Research farm, Department of Agriculture, Suresh Guan Vihar University Jaipur (Rajasthan) during kharif, 2024 on loamy sand soil with objective to “Effect of irrigation and silicon levels on growth, yield and quality of Barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) Application of three irrigation (30-35, 60-65 & 80-85 DAS significantly increased the number of effective tillers per plant, number of grains per plant, spike length, seed, straw and biological yield over control, one irrigation (30-35 DAS) and two irrigation (30-35 & 80-85 DAS) as compared to control and one irrigation (b/w 30-35 DAS and remained statistically at par with Two irrigation at 30-35 DAS and 80-85 DAS. Application of 200 kg Si ha-1 significantly increased the number of effective tillers per plant, number of grains per plant, spike length, seed, straw and biological yield over control and 100 kg Si ha-1 and remained statistically at par with 150 kg Si ha-1. The highest net returns (Rs 48020 ha-1) were recorded under three irrigation (30-35, 60-65 & 80-85 DAS, followed by two irrigation (30-35 & 80-85 DAS) (Rs 46653ha-1), and the lowest under control (Rs 27801 ha-1).The highest net return of 46076 Rs ha-1 obtained with 200 kg Si ha-1 proved statistically at par with 150 kg Si ha-1 (Rs 43485 ha-1) and lowest net return of Rs 36375 ha-1 were realized with control.
