Impact of digital technology adoption on smallholder farmers' income: Evidence from rural India

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between the adoption of digital agricultural tools (like mobile apps and market information systems) and the net income of smallholder farmers. Using a cross-sectional survey of 400 households, the study employs a Propensity Score Matching (PSM) approach. Results indicate that farmers using digital tools saw a 15 per cent increase in crop profitability due to better price discovery and reduced middleman intervention.
