Utility of remedy relationship chapter of therapeutic pocket book for second prescription

Abstract

Concordance or remedy relationship analysis as proposed by Boenninghausen provides an essential tool for determining second and subsequent prescriptions, especially when the initial prescription yields partial improvement or induces medicinal manifestations. This case highlights the practical application of the concordance chapter in selecting a second prescription. A 22-year-old male presented with acute aphthous ulcers of the mouth and was prescribed Mercurius 200C by repertorizing case with Boenninghausen Therapeutic Pocket Book. At follow-up, new symptoms cracked tongue, throat pain with dysphagia, tonsillar inflammation, and pustular swelling over the thigh developed, corresponding to the medicinal sphere of action of Mercury, indicating the need for an antidote. Through remedy relationship analysis and repertorisation, Hepar sulphur 200C, a known antidote to Mercury, was administered, resulting in significant clinical improvement. This case demonstrates the importance of remedy relationships in second prescription strategy and illustrates the practical utility of Boenninghausen concordance in acute case management.
