A study to assess the knowledge regarding sex education among the parents of children and adolescents in selected hospital of New Delhi

Abstract

Introduction: Adults who are parents or caregivers are equally important recipients of sex education. A parent’s support in child’s formal sex education is important, but the informed conversation and lessons that a parent provides throughout a child’s life can have just as, if not more meaning.Objectives: The study aimed to assess the pre-knowledge, to analyze the effectiveness of Structured Teaching Programme and also seek the comparison of pre-test and post-test of knowledge regarding sex education among parents of children and adolescent.Method: The comparative study included 30 parents of children and adolescents who visited to O.P.D of selected hospital chosen with probability purposive sampling technique. Structured knowledge questionnaire was used for data collection. Data was analyzed by using descriptive statistics.Result/Findings: Depicts that before giving structured teaching program we had 60%, 40% and 00% of poor, moderate and adequate knowledge regarding sex education respectively among parents of children and adolescents. But after giving structure teaching program we have 00%, 70% and 30% of poor, moderate and adequate knowledge regarding sex education respectively among parents of children and adolescents respectively.Conclusion: Result confirmed earlier studies findings that after Structured Teaching Programme knowledge of parents regarding sex education has increased among parents of children and adolescent. Awareness about sex education among parents of children and adolescent had increased.
