A study on effectiveness of homoeopathic intervention in systemic hypertension and a comparative evaluation of homoeopathy as add on therapy in patients on antihypertensives

Abstract

Background: As Systemic Hypertension is a growing problem worldwide, there is an increasing need of researches to find out effective measures to tackle the same. Hypertension is a silent killer as it is symptomless but later results in morbidity and mortality. Hypertension detection, awareness and its control are poor. Hypertension ranks as the most prevalent modifiable risk factor for premature cardiovascular morbidity and mortality, and requires constant surveillance to identify complications and slow their development. As conventional pharmacological intervention is lengthier and more expensive, a safer alternative and cost-effective treatment is homoeopathy. Homoeopathy can provide individualistic care for the patient with its holistic approach. Objective: This study is an attempt to find out the effectiveness of homoeopathic intervention in the management of systemic hypertension and also to study the role of homoeopathic medicine as an add on therapy in patients on conventional treatment. Methods: Two group of patients were selected for the study. For the first group homeopathic medicines alone and the second group of patients were allowed to continue conventional treatment along with homoeopathic medicines. Results: Blood pressure values before and after the administration of medicines were analysed by using appropriate statistical method. Conclusion: Study showed a positive role of homoeopathic medicines in the management of systemic hypertension.
