Influence of 3G cutting on the performance of Cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) for growth, yield and quality attributes
Abstract
The study titled Influence of 3G Cutting on the Performance of Cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) for Growth and Yield Attributes was conducted from 2024 to 2025 at the Vegetable Research Farm, Department of Horticulture, SHUATS, Prayagraj. The soil in the experimental plot was sandy loam, with a near-neutral pH of 7.1, low organic carbon (0.36%), and low levels of available nitrogen (171.48 kg/ha), phosphorus (15.2 kg/ha), and potassium (232.5 kg/ha). The experiment was organized using a Randomized Block Design with ten treatments, including a control group, and replicated three times. The findings suggest that varying the percentage of primary and secondary branch cutting significantly impacted the growth, yield, and quality of cucumber. Based on a one-year study, it was concluded that the T3 treatment (25% primary branch cutting + 50% secondary branch cutting) resulted in the shortest plant height, the highest number of female flowers, the most fruits per plant, the largest fruit diameter, and the highest fruit yield and B:C ratio under the agro-climatic conditions of Prayagraj.
