Effect of weed control and fertilizer management on growth and development of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during the Rabi season of 2024-25 at Agronomical farm of Rama University Mandhana, a rural area 10 km from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, to evaluate the effect of weed control and fertilizer management on wheat (Triticum aestivum L.). The experimental site featured loamy sand soil with a pH of 7.62, electrical conductivity (EC) of 0.25 dS m⁻¹, organic carbon content of 0.44%, and available nutrients: nitrogen (N) at 215.60 kg ha⁻¹, phosphorus (P) at 19.58 kg ha⁻¹, and potassium (K) at 148.50 kg ha⁻¹. The experiment was laid out in a Factorial Randomized Block Design (FRBD) with three replications, comprising 15 treatment combinations (3 nutrient levels × 5 weed control methods). The study was continued in the Rabi season of 2024-25 to validate findings and assess treatment effects on wheat yield and weed dynamics, contributing to sustainable agronomic practices in Uttar Pradesh.
