An overview on super foods for controlling lifestyle disorders

Abstract

Lifestyle disorders such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and hypertension are rising rapidly due to sedentary habits, poor diet, and stress. These non-communicable diseases pose a significant global health burden. Superfoods—nutrient-rich natural foods like berries, chia seeds, flaxseeds, quinoa, broccoli, and green tea—have gained attention for their ability to prevent and manage such disorders. Rich in antioxidants, fibre, and bioactive compounds, these foods exhibit anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and glycemic-regulating properties. Scientific studies suggest that regular inclusion of superfoods in the diet can improve lipid profiles, enhance insulin sensitivity, lower blood pressure, and protect against oxidative stress. This review highlights the nutritional benefits and functional roles of selected superfoods in combating lifestyle-related diseases. It emphasizes the importance of integrating them into daily diets and public health strategies to promote long-term wellness.
