Study of physical fitness among Oraon tribal adolescents of Jashpur, Chhattisgarh, India

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to assess the Physical fitness status of adolescent boys belonging to the Oraon tribal population of Jashpur district, Chhattisgarh, India. 400 participants (boys aged 10 - 18 years) were selected as sample of the study. Physical fitness variables selected were standing broad jump (SBJ) and Vertical jump (VJ) which mainly measure the explosive strength of the leg. Data was analysed by using descriptive statistics. The result of the study showed increasing performance in standing broad jump and vertical jump with increasing age. Further studied to find out impact of Diet, socio-economic condition, climate, cultural perspectives and other factor influence on growth and physical fitness among the adolescents is needed.
