A study to compare modified holmich protocol versus muscle energy technique with strengthening and stretching on adductor related groin pain in college football player

Abstract

Background: Adductor muscle strain is a leading cause of groin pain in football players, typically resulting from high-intensity movements such as kicking, sprinting, and cutting.Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the effectiveness of the modified Holmich protocol versus a combined approach involving muscle energy technique, stretching, and strengthening in reducing adductor-related groin pain.Methodology: Thirty college football players were randomly assigned into two groups: Group A (n=15) received the modified Holmich protocol, while Group B (n=15) followed the combined approach. Pain levels, range of motion (hip abduction/internal rotation), and leg strength were assessed using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), hip abduction/internal rotation ROM, and the triple hop test.Results: Group A showed significantly greater improvements in pain, ROM, and leg strength (p< 0.05) compared to Group B.Conclusion: The modified Holmich protocol is more effective in treating adductor-related groin pain in college football players.
