The quiet mass in the midline: Navigating pineal region meningioma

Abstract

Neoplasms of the pineal region are relatively rare within the spectrum of central nervous system tumours. This anatomical area is particularly diverse, characterized by a broad range of radiological tumours types. Meningiomas in the pineal region are particularly rare, but they may occur, typically originating from either the velum interpositum or the falcotentorial junction. We report a rare case of a female patient with a pineal region tumour, in which the differential diagnosis included meningioma and pineocytoma. Advanced imaging modalities, including MRI and CT, were instrumental in establishing the diagnosis of a velum interpositum meningioma.
