A rare presentation of bilateral inverted impacted mandibular third molars associated with a dentigerous cyst: Case report and review of the literature

Abstract

Bilateral inverted impaction of mandibular third molars is an exceptionally rare condition with limited documentation in the literature, particularly when associated with a dentigerous cyst. This case report describes a unique presentation of bilateral inverted impacted mandibular third molars in a 35-year-old male, associated with a dentigerous cyst on the right side. A comprehensive assessment, including clinical examination, radiographic imaging, and histopathological analysis, confirmed the diagnosis. Surgical management included the extraction of the right inverted mandibular third molar and enucleation of the cyst, with careful preservation of the inferior alveolar nerve. This case emphasizes the diagnostic and surgical complexities of inverted impactions and highlights the importance of individualized treatment planning to prevent complications and optimize outcomes. A review of relevant literature is provided to enhance understanding and guide future management of similar cases.
