Studies of propagation methods of marigold (Tagetes erecta L.) on growth, yield, and quality of flowers

Abstract

Generally, marigold is propagated by seeds. However, true-to-type plants can not be obtained through seed propagation because it is an often-cross-pollinated crops. Hence for the perpetuation of all characteristics of a particular plant and to obtain a true-to-type plant, one should follow asexual propagation i.e. cutting. The overall studies indicated that the propagation method by seed (P1) was found beneficial in increasing the growth and yield of marigolds. However, the propagation method by cuttings (P2) had a significant influence on the flowering characteristics of marigolds. The variety Shaunak Orange was found to be significantly superior to the other varieties under study.
