ELISA: Based serological and epidemiological studies on lumpy skin disease virus in cattle from Rajasthan

Abstract

Lumpy skin disease (LSD) is a rapidly spreading transboundary disease affecting cattle, caused by the Lumpy Skin Disease Virus (LSDV). It poses a significant threat to the dairy, meat, and leather industries in India and numerous other countries, leading to considerable economic losses. Serological tests have been utilized for decades in the diagnosis and epidemiological research of LSD in animals. The purpose of this study was to measure LSDV levels in serum and nasal swab samples from cattle suspected of having LSD by using the Bovine Lumpy Skin Disease (LSDV) ELISA Kit (SunLong Biotech Co., LTD). Serological testing using ELISA identified an overall occurrence of 30.7%, with 74 out of 455 samples (214 serum samples and 241 nasal swab samples) testing positive, collected from various regions of Rajasthan state during year 2023-2024. This study presents data on the occurrence of LSD in different regions of Rajasthan state, aiding in the development of more effective disease prevention and control strategies.
