Exploring muscular dystrophy through the lens of Unani medicine: Integrative approaches to understanding and management

Abstract

Muscular dystrophies, particularly Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), are debilitating genetic disorders characterized by progressive muscle weakness and functional decline, primarily affecting young males. Despite the absence of a definitive cure, innovative management strategies prioritize enhancing the quality of life through a harmonious blend of Unani and modern medical interventions, such as physiotherapy and holistic approaches. Unani Medicine stands out with its distinctive therapies, including therapeutic massage, moderate exercise, tailored dietotherapy, and potent unani formulations, all designed to relieve symptoms and promote overall well-being. The integration of advanced conventional treatments with time-honored natural remedies paves a hopeful path toward addressing the intricate physical and emotional burdens of these conditions, inspiring optimism and resilience in patients and their families.
