Normative data of VO2 max using 20 m shuttle run test in healthy adults between age group of 18 to 25 years

Abstract

The word "physical fitness" describes a group of characteristics which impact a person's ability to exercise.The maximum rate at which the body can use oxygen when exercising is known as aerobic fitness, and it is frequently measured using VO2 max.The 20 Meter Shuttle Run Test (20 m SRT) is a commonly performed test for determining cardiovascular endurance.This study aimed to collect normative data on VO2 max among Indian healthy adults to aid in fitness assessment and training design.This was an observational cross-sectional study which included 220 healthy individuals (ages 18-25).Subjects with cardiovascular/respiratory disease, neurological/musculoskeletal impairment, or unwilling to participate were excluded.Results indicated that the normative VO2 max values ranged from 32.03 to 49.78 ml/kg/min, associated with age, gender, and BMI (p<0.05).The study concluded that VO2 max decreases with age and BMI, with males showing higher values than females.
