Sustainable livelihoods and poverty eradication in Odisha: The importance of integrated policy approaches

Abstract

Odisha, India’s most resource-rich yet economically vulnerable states, has made imporant strides in poverty reduction. However, challenges such as rural unemployment, tribal marginalization, climate vulnerabilities, and gender disparities continue to hinder sustainable development. Sustainable livelihoods, which ensure economic resilience while preserving natural and social resources, are essential for long-term poverty eradication. This paper explores the significant of an integrated policy approach that combines agricultural reforms, skill development, gender empowerment, climate resilience, and public-private partnerships. By leveraging multi-sectoral strategies and strengthening governance, Odisha can achieve inclusive and sustainable growth, ensuring that vulnerable communities benefit from long-term economic opportunities.
