Agroforestry for climate resilience: A holistic and sustainable approach for India: A comprehensive review

Abstract

Agroforestry, an ancient practice of integrating trees with crops and livestock, has been gaining prominence as a climate change mitigation option in India. The present review explores the role of agroforestry in enhancing climate resilience through carbon sequestration, soil conservation, biodiversity enhancement, and livelihood security. Agroforestry is also useful for sustainable land management, improving microclimatic conditions, and creating alternative sources of income for farmers. The study delineates effective agroforestry models, policy initiatives, socioeconomic benefits, and prospects for augmenting agroforestry in India as a climate-resilient intervention.
