Relationship of physical parameters and body condition score (BCS) along with live body weight of Sirohi goat 1-year-old Bucks in Ladpura Tehsil of Kota, Rajasthan

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between live body weight and body condition score (BCS) in one-year-old Sirohi bucks from Ladpura Tehsil in Kota, Rajasthan. Purposive random sampling was used to select 280 bucks and does, ages 1 to 5, for the study, which was carried out at Krishi Vigyan Kendra Borkhera, Kota. Based on fat deposition and muscle mass, BCS was scored on a range of 1 to 5. Physical characteristics like length, height, chest circumference, and live body weight were measured. SPSS was used to analyze the data and determine correlations. According to the results, 14% of one-year-olds had a BCS of 2.0, 21% had a BCS of 3.0, 29% had a BCS of 4.0, and 36% had a BCS of 5.0. Height, length, and chest circumference were all found to be correlated with higher BCS levels. The highest mean values for height (25.47 inches), length (24.95 inches), chest girth (25.49 inches), and live body weight (28.43 kg) were found in bucks with a BCS of 5.0. For bucks with a BCS of 2.0, correlation analysis showed weakly positive correlations between length (0.234) and chest girth (0.297) and weakly negative correlations (-0.350) between height and live body weight. Strong positive correlations were found between a height is 0.963 (p<0.01), length is 0.968 (p<0.01), and chest girth is 0.966 (p<0.01) in bucks with a BCS of 3.0. Bucks with a BCS of 4.0 exhibited strong positive correlations for a length is 0.917 (p<0.01) and chest girth is 0.985 (p<0.01), but strong negative correlations for a height is -0.669 (p<0.01). The study's conclusion emphasizes the significance of these variables in evaluating goat productivity and health by showing a significant correlation between higher BCS levels and increased physical parameters and live body weight in one-year-old Sirohi bucks.
