Abstract

Earthworms are known to be farmer’s friend due to its major role in maintaining the soil integrity and its fertility. Earthworm has greater diversity throughout world, specifically in tropical and temperate regions. Lumbricidae is the one of the most important family of earthworms due to its beneficial impacts to the mankind. Because a very less information is available about the diversity patterns of Lumbricidae family in India, hence an effort is made to record the species richness and distribution patterns of Lumbricidae earthworms from different regions of India. The present study is conducted to record the past and existing fauna of earthworms (Lumbricidae) from different states of India.
