In vitro effect of different culture media on cultural and morphological characteristics of Fusarium solani causing root rot of Chilli

Abstract

Fusarium solani is one of the major constraints in the production of chilli, causing heavy quantitative as well as qualitative losses. Results revealed that all the 10 culture media tested encouraged better mycelia growth and spore production of F. solani. However, significantly highest mean mycelial growth (88.46) was recorded on Oat meal agar. The second and third best media were Richard’s agar (86.70) and PDA (85.77). All the test culture media exhibited a wide range of colony morphology. Colonies produced on all culture media were mostly white coloured with smooth margin.Excellent (++++) sporulation was found on PDA, Oat meal agar Richard’s agar, Fungal Agar, V8 Juice agar and Fungal agar; whereas, it was poor (+) on Soyabean meal Agar, Chilli stem extract agar and Chilli root extract agar.
